Protests and Repression at Brooklyn College
On May 8th, the Brooklyn College and CUNY administration used NYPD officers to violently disperse a peaceful protest. The next week they denied a separate group the right to hold a public meeting, again mobilizing the NYPD. You can read our 2-part report on these events here:

May Events
Professor Vitale spoke about the state of civilian oversight at the National Association for Civilian Oversight of Law Enforcement (NACOLE) Regional Conference in New York City. He emphasized the need to switch from a “procedural justice” framework to a transformative justice one instead, which emphasizes transparency, community accountability, repairing past harms, and preventing future harms. Current procedural models focus on restoring legitimacy to policing rather than bringing true justice and safety to communities. https://www.nacole.org/2025_regional_meeting_nyc
